“In the social and political turmoil brought by the current Administration, the ACLU, Brooke, Krishna, and Geng represent the components of what will ultimately be a successful resistance movement,” said Julian Sanjivan, NYC Pride March Director in an official statement. New York’s Pride March has always been called a march, however their choice of Grand Marshals is a sign of the changing times. In lieu of speedo-clad go-go dancers atop big-rig floats and celebrity grand marshals slowly cruising down Santa Monica Boulevard, a protest march will take place. Pride is nixing its popular parade and opting for something more political, too. Similar to the Woman’s March, Capital Pride Alliance announced a National Pride March in Washington D.C.
This shift towards a more politicized pride has been happening in cities all over the country during the wake of Donald Trump’s presidency.
